Enyimba will have to blame disappointing finishing for going down 1-0 at home to Wydad Athletic Club Casablanca from Morocco in an African Football League quarterfinal first leg tonight.
The difference between the two teams tonight was a 39th minute penalty converted by Wydad captain Yahya Jabrane after a mistake by goalkeeper and captain Olorunleke Ojo.
Youngster Daniel Daga, who at 16 became the youngest player to feature in this new tournament, as well as striker Joseph Atule had clear-cut chances to at least draw Enyimba level, but they failed to hit target.
In stoppage time, Enyimba defender Alalibo Orinate was sent off for a professional foul after the intervention of VAR.
The return leg will be played Wednesday in Morocco with the overall winners advancing to the semifinal of the inaugural competition against either TP Mazembe of DR Congo or Esperance from Tunisia.
