Thirteen years after the arrival in Morocco of Turkish BIM, which has since built a real success story there, another hard discounter from the Middle East is preparing to enter the Moroccan market for the marketing of mass distribution products.
This time, it is the Egyptian Kazyon that is in question and of which Morocco will be the first international step (as was BIM in 2009).

The official launch of Kazyon Market in Morocco is planned for this month of October with the inauguration, primarily in Casablanca initially, of around twenty points of sale in a small distribution format, i.e. areas between 150 m² and 300 m². To finance its international expansion which includes, in addition to the first milestone in Morocco, other markets such as those of Algeria and Tunisia, the group’s holding company Kazyon UK Limited (based in England) has raised no less than 165 million dollars (more than 1.7 billion dirhams) from a consortium of investors led by the London fund manager DPI (Development Partners International) who also knows Morocco too well having carried out several operations there ( CMGP, Pharmaceutical Institute, Dolidol, Private University of Marrakech, Touax Africa, etc.).

On its development path in Morocco, the Kazyon Market brand will therefore have to cross swords on its positioning with BIM Maroc of course (whose network reaches more than 670 points of sale), but also the Moroccan majors who have created adapted brands to the discount concept, such as Label’Vie Group which already has around twenty Supeco points of sale (whose average commercial surface area is around 150 m²). But the group founded in 2014 by businessman Hassan Heikal intends to take its share of the pie from a growing market knowing that traditional distribution still captures nearly 70% of the market share in Morocco. And he intends to rely on the management put in place led by Mohamed Benmezouara, the former CEO of BIM Maroc who launched the adventure before leaving the ship in 2015.
